What Stories Are You Telling?
“Stories convey the culture, history, and values that unite people.” – Harvard Business
We have been sharing stories ever since the beginning of humanity. It is an essential part of how we communicate every day. Stories build connection, pique our interest, and deepen our understanding of basically everything. These are just a few reasons why storytelling can be a powerful tool for brands.
Why are stories valuable in a business setting?
Traditionally, companies have relied on numbers, statistics, and hard data to build business. However, a compelling story can do just that in a much simpler, yet much more engaging way. While many companies have a story to share, communicating it clearly is where they often struggle. At Blue Barn, we take the time to consult each client prior to filming, which allows us to create a clear roadmap for creating the engaging content they require.
A brand story (we also call them Creative Brand Films) can help simplify complex messages and share a particular company mission, values and purpose in an effective way. Some of the most successful brands today use purpose driven stories to inspire audience their audiences and bolster their following. It’s one thing to have a potential customer be aware of your brand, but it’s much better to have a potential customer be a fan of your brand. A believer in what you do and why you do it.
One example of a creative brand film we created is “The Black Market Trust (BMT)” at the world-famous Capitol Records in LA. Our intention with this film was to capture the collective voice of BMT regarding their influences that shaped their sound and the motivation behind their recent album.
Stories persuade and influence audiences
Great brands are transparent. Stories that humanize your brand reveal who you really are and help to distinguish your company from the rest of your industry. Being authentic helps form relationships with people. It generates trust. Great films have the power to tap into emotions and connect with your audience on a human level.
An important reminder: Most marketers know this, that we make decisions based on emotion rather than logic even though we tend to think we make decisions with our brains first. Especially men who pride themselves on being unemotional. As if there were such a thing!
In our world full of noise, people want to believe in a business and what it stands for. Not to mention, they will trust a brand who aligns with their values. By sharing your most meaningful stories you can elevate your brand and, ultimately, win over your audience.
In this film below, we explore what is called a Values Film for our client, Procopio, a San Diego based law firm. By combing the stories of attorneys from various backgrounds we show how diversity has impacted them personally and actually improved their ability to serve clients.
As you consider which stories your company should share, take a moment to think about connection and how you want to relate to your audience. A business shouldn’t be afraid to lift the veil; exposing the struggles, challenges, and successes that went into building the brand. That is what makes your journey interesting! People want to rally behind a purpose-driven company.
Share a remarkable story that inspires, engages, and motivates others.
